Healthy Eating and Drinking for Good Health

October 31, 2009

Nowadays most of us lead very busy lives. We tend to rush from place to place, switch quickly from activity to activity and spend little time on ourselves. Our activity also has a cost. We know that no matter how much money we have, we can’t buy good health. But we should follow some basic principles on our day to day eating and drinking habits.

Do not drink iced water, especially not with meals. This interferes with flow of your digestive juices and impairs digestion.

Drink a cup of fresh pure water, at room temperature, the first thing in the morning and last thing at night. You should drink it hot only when you are constipated. In that case, a little lime or lemon may be added.

Drink six to eight glasses of water every day, approximately one glass for every fourteen pounds of your body weight. Drink mineral water to be on safe side.

Do not drink water with your meals, but drink it half hour before or two to three hours after your meals so as not to disturb the process of your digestion by diluting the digestive juices.

It is better that you eat fresh fruits and vegetables than to drink fruit or vegetable juices.

Coffee, tea, alcohol and chocolate are not recommended because tannic acid, theine, caffeine and theobromine are stimulants.

Milk is really a food, not a drink. You should have it in small sips. Otherwise, it will likely produce indigestion.

It is not the amount of food you consume that nourishes your body, but only the amount the body itself can assimilate.

Choose carefully the foods that fit your system, choose them just as carefully as you choose a shirt, a hat or a tie. You have to try different food combinations until you figure out which health food suit you best. Make health choices such as steam fresh vegetables.

Avoid all devitalized foods like canned food, polished rice, white flour and white sugar. Use unpolished rice, whole wheat flour and brown sugar or honey.

Another healthy choice is to chew your food carefully and slowly, especially if it is the starchy kind, so that it may be properly mixed with saliva, otherwise starch will be waiting for digestion for several hours.

Toasted bread is better than fresh. Do not eat it with liquid. Drink before eating the bread, as starch should be converted into glucose by saliva.

Eat only one starch to a meal. For instance, if you have rice then omit potatoes, bread, macaroni starchy pudding and so on.

Any diet which is high in saturated fat is dangerous. So you should eat a balanced meal, a high fat and low protein diet inhibits the function of enzymes.

The richest source of protein is soya bean. Two pounds of soya been flour contain as much protein as five pounds of cheese, five pounds of boneless meat or six dozen eggs or 10 liters of milk. Soya bean is the only non-acid forming protein.

3 Advantages of Healthy Living, Fitness and Nutrition

October 30, 2009

The guidelines for healthy living are relatively simple. Where people go wrong is that they fail to stick to them. This should come as no surprise though, especially when you consider all of the unhealthy food choices society has to offer that can derail even the healthiest of lifestyles. However, we all have moments of weakness when we want to stray from our healthy lifestyle. But the next time these moments arrive to interrupt your life, remind yourself of the following advantages you have over others because you’re healthy. 1: Energy Having more energy is an advantage that often goes overlooked because it’s just not easily noticeable. If you take a moment to think about it though, you’ll notice that you actually do have a lot more energy throughout the day. 2: Stamina If you’re out of shape and living an unhealthy life style, then you probably get reminded of this every time you walk up a flight of stairs or have to do any time of activity that gets your heart rate moving faster. 3: Being slim It’s never been fashionable to be overweight and there’s no indication that it will be anytime soon. When you live a healthy life style, one with proper diet and exercise, you maintain a healthy and slim weight. But even better, finding clothes that fit properly will be hassle free. The advantages listed above essentially speak for themselves when it comes to deciding to live healthy.

Your body was designed to move and the more you move it the better it will perform. It is important that you fit exercise into your daily routine. Also try alternating cardiovascular sessions and weights to give your days some variety.

Use music when you exercise, If you have a favorite band or type of music then put your earphones in and drift away whilst you work out. It’s amazing how fast time can pass when you are enjoying the music you are listening to.
